Pre-Op Liquid Diet – Day 1

Day One HealthIt’s the end of day one of my liquid diet. Looking back over the course of the day, consuming only liquids was not as difficult as I thought it might be. There have been days when I skipped eating all day, which was by choice. This time…not so much.

My day started at 8:30 am and by 10:30 my stomach was already telling me, “Hey, I’m empty.” I’m usually a coffee drinker but since I can’t have my cream or sugar I opted for some hot tea. I guess subconsciously I was hoping the tea would give me the full feeling that coffee does but as I got closer and closer to the bottom of my mug I found myself still feeling hungry.

I’m not a sweets person so carefully going over the list of sugar-free beverages that I’m allowed to have, if there are 15 artificially sweetened drinks and two that are salty, I’ll choose salty every time. So, I had me a date with some chicken consommé. I spent most of the day sipping on three to-go mugs of chicken consommé, still waiting for that full, satisfied feeling. When that didn’t come I hit the sugar-free Jell-O and I hit it hard! Who knew Jell-O could taste so good and was able trick your mind into thinking it’s solid food just because you get to eat it with a spoon?! It’s the little things, ya know?

Today was a success because of the support that came in from my friends and family. Their words of encouragement really made me believe in myself and help me keep my eyes on the prize. And even though this liquid diet will probably be one of the hardest things I will ever have to do, it will all be worth it.

It’s time for bed and I’m ending my day writing this blog while sipping on some diet V-8 juice, just hoping and praying that tomorrow will go as well as today. One day down…13 days to go!!
