A minimally invasive procedure, the Lap-Band reduces how much the stomach can hold by placing an adjustable silicone band around the upper part of the stomach, giving it an hourglass shape. Unlike other restrictive procedures, there is no cutting or stapling of the stomach. The band creates the pouch without permanently altering any organs, and it does not affect the natural digestive process.
