Staci's Lap-Band Success Story
Lost 45 pounds
The main reason I had the LAP-BAND was for my health. It wasn't cosmetic. The LAP-BAND was perfect for me. I had surgery on Thursday and I was back at work on Monday. I worked 40 hours that week and nobody knew I was gone. DayOne Health is unique because it is a very family environment. You make friends at the support groups, you make friends when you're in the waiting room. This good thing is going on so it's very contagious when you're there. I'm healthy, I have a lot more energy, I'm so much happier, I'm excited. I do the things I used to do... I feel like I'm myself. I'm glad I didn't wait.
I procrastinated writing my story, because it is personal and painful. I've joked about my weight struggles for years. I have been up and down, like many people, constantly putting up a vigilant struggle.
Every day I thought about how the scale slowly kept creeping up, and every day I felt guilty, hopeless, and depressed. I used to think, if I put this much thought into world hunger, I'd find a cure.
I exercised regularly, hiring trainers and fitness experts. I ate moderately, trying many diet plans, but slowly I gained an average of 1 pound every one or two months. That doesn't sound like much, but when you multiply that times the last 6 years (72 months), I had gained 57 pounds from my last big weight loss, and weighed my all-time high: 217 pounds.
The turning point came when a local nonprofit agency asked me to model for a national campaign. That picture was everywhere, and I really saw how fat I was — and decided to take drastic measures.
The last time I lost a significant amount of weight, I realized for me to be a normal size (be able to shop in normal stores versus plus size stores), I had to do abnormal things, like work out three times a day versus others' three times a week. I was fighting a family history of obesity, hypertension, and diabetes.
I am in the medical field, and I knew that the way I was gaining weight was unhealthy. I also spent time working under a bariatric gastric bypass surgeon, and knew that even though it was successful, it also came with a slew of complications. When I researched the LAP-BAND, I knew that it was perfect for me. Healthy, safe, and adjustable. It's life long if you ever need a tool to help again, there's no malabsorption side effects, and you can get pregnant. I worked the plan my way. This is no quick fix, but I see results (over 45 pounds loss), and cannot be happier.
It's been life changing. I'm so much happier. I have more confidence. I am stronger, fitter, healthier. I have a lot more energy.
You know when you run into an old friend, I used to always feel like they walked away and said, "she really let herself go." Now I feel good to see them again.
My only regret — I wish that I wish I had done it sooner. I'm glad that the rest of my life, I am the person that I thought I should be ... not the embarrassing image I saw in the mirror.
